So how did "Walkin' For A Dog" start?I'll tell you. It all started with me wanting a dog. I'm a 32yr old mom of 3. For awhile my arms have felt empty. My youngest child is now 6. He's no long mama's baby boy.
At first I want another baby. But due to some personal reasons I knew it would take a some work from God to make that possible. I kept the faith though and I prayed, waiting and hoped. After almost 3yrs for this I start longing for a dog too. Then it hit me. A dog would be easier than a baby. lol
The problem is we already have 3 cats. I grew up in a home with a dog and for awhile I thought how easy cats were. They take care of themselves, we have been able to leave them home alone for a weekend visit to parents and so on. But after enjoying my sister's cute little dog I wanted one of my own.
My husband said NO. Now I am a 32yr old woman, I'm an adult and yet I can make up my own mind. But this being a Christian home my husband is the head of the home. It would be wrong for me and bad for our marriage to go against him.
So I hinted and hinted. It got to the point this past Christmas season that my husband he tired of hearing about dogs. So I gave it up and didn't mention it.
One week this past December before Christmas my husband & I got to talking. My kids were at my in laws so we could do Christmas shopping so we were able to talk with out kids interrupting. I don't remember how it came about but we got to talking about how I needed to talk walking again for my health & weight loss. He just happened to say "What will it take to get you out a few times a week?"
A light bulb went off in my head and I started tossing out a few suggestions like make up a sticker chart like we've done for the kids. I was kind of joking around then added if I walk a few times a week I can get a slushy. I love those fruit flavored drinks with the little ice. I then added again kind of joking "If I walk a maybe a few times a week for a month or so maybe a Chick - fil -a sandwich." I love the place but it can be costly for a family of 5. He went on to say he'd get me a whole meal.
Ohh, I thought. I then kind of joked saying "How about if I walk the kids for awhile, then maybe walk one of the cats I can get me a sweet little puppy to join me." I expected him to groan again but he added "We'll see about that."
So for Christmas I presented my husband with a contract. It is a year long contract for me to walk a few times a week for my health and weight loss. After 6-8mts of this and if I can lose some weight I'll get a dog.
I double printed this thing and we both signed it. My 11yr old was the witness!
So join me on my journey of "Walkin' for my dog!" |
